Henderson State Reddies announces Galvan Wins First GAC Pitcher of the Week Award
From March 13, 2023 post.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After a brilliant performance in game one of the weekend series against No. 9 Southern Arkansas that sparked Henderson's two games to three series victory, Ryan Galvan was named the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This is the first Pitcher of the Week honor the Reddies have received this season, with teammate Luke Farrar being named the GAC Player of the Week back on Feb. 21 of this year.
Galvan (3-0) and the reigning National Pitcher of the Year in SAU's Jeremy Adorno squared off on the mound in game one of the highly touted GAC series between Henderson St. and No. 9 Southern Arkansas. The Texarkana, Texas native out-dueled the Mulerider ace, throwing six innings after allowing just five hits and one run.
The lefty hurler recorded a season-high eight strikeouts in the win. Eight punch-outs is the second most in the junior's HSU career after notching 10 strikeouts against Southern Nazarene on Feb. 27, 2022.
Galvan leads the pitching staff this year and is third in the GAC with a 2.36 ERA as part of Henderson's conference fourth-best 4.68 team ERA. The Reddies will take that pitching into a midweek contest at Clyde Berry Field against Mississippi College Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. Earlier this season, HSU fell to MC on the road, 18-8.
